So you write those trashy bodice-rippers
Yes! After years of mumbling a reply when asked what I write, I lift my head and square my shoulders. I’m proud to say ‘Romance’.
Why? Romance novels are a powerful societal force. They show ordinary men and women working through problems, overcoming obstacles, finding love, and overcoming evil.
Romance novelists show social problems and how people react to them. A prime example is Kathleen Eagle. She writes of the difficulties of the American Indian in a heart-warming manner that can be related to many readers.
The first novel I ever read about rape was the first romance book printed by Meteor Publishing. It dealt with the difficult emotional recovery of a woman and the man who stood by her. Literacy, alcoholism, homelessness, single motherhood, adoption and the search for roots have all been done in a number of sympathetic ways.
Not every book takes on the deep subjects. Some are for fun. Or erotic. Or inspirational. I love it when a taboo subject is exposed. And I applaud the writers who venture into areas like mastectomy, blindness, handicapped individuals of any kind, and show us that love is never limited to the perfect few.
Have you found that author who stirred your heart? Do you write something that grabs a reader, makes her laugh or cry?

I've gone through that same thing. Now that my first book is coming out, instead of mumbling what I write, I proudly say it's a Paranormal Romance (with the capital letters *LOL*). Heck, it pays the bills, and how many people wouldn't want to be able to do what I do, stay home and write? I'M the one finally living my dream job, not stuck in an office all day. So darn skippy I'm proud, and you should be too.
Bodice Rippers, I don't think it is a trashy name, I agree with you, romance in all its genres is a release mechanism for a lot of stressed out people, and it does cover a wide range of emotions, that is why I think it is very relevant in todays society.
I agree. lesli. The money is green and spendable.

Hi Margaret,
Do you remember those covers? Everyone would hide them when they were reading. Now we point at those gorgeous biceps.
Times are changing.

I know what you mean, Barb. I am still trying to find a balance between emails, websites, and my writing. My first book, "Journey To Forgiveness" will be out in e-book on November 14. It should be out in print sometime in May.
I am new at this. As suggested, I have joined several loops plus a writing site. Have you checked out Writing.com? I think I will like that one. But, there is so much to view and do on the site, that I don't know where to begin. And I must limit my time so I can write.
Speaking of taboo subjects, my book is about a young lady who has been physically abused by her father. She has re-occurring nightmares. That coupled with an anger toward and a mistrust of, men becomes an almost insurmountable problem when the jovial hero comes on the scene.
You can check out the blurb on the Wild Rose Press site. Click on "Coming Soon", then on Inspirational. At the present, "Journey To Forgiveness is at the top.
I love your blog. I don't have a real website, but two blogs. The last one was created by accident (because I couldn't get into the first one). Oh well, so I have two.
I would love for you to post on either or both of them, since no one seems to know they exist. One woman did leave a couple posts three months back.
I can't wait to hear more from you and your writing. Sounds like you have a real talent. Keep it up. It's a gift from God.
My blogspots are www.laureanslore.com and www.laureanbrooks.com
Hi Lauren,
We're all beginner's in one way or another.
